COFFEE & KAREEM: THE MOVIE

When you watch movies on Netflix, it suggests new movies for you and informs you of movies that are coming soon. When I saw the trailer for Coffee and Kareem, I was so interested I set a reminder.

The movie was finally available and when I saw it, it was almost like every other movie. The story line is okay, the choice of Taraji P. Henson as the mother was a great one.

Taraji played the role of a single mother who would do anything to keep her child safe, even if it means losing the man she loves. Her child Kareem on the other hand is one who tries to act tough.

Coffee’s a white cop who can’t shoot straight and is dating Vanessa whose kid has a nose for trouble and is not happy his mum is dating a white cop (no racism intended). Coffee and Kareem later find out they can work together after all the trouble, gun fights, near death experiences and kidnapping they went through together as a family. Kareem agrees Coffee is good for his mum but is still on probation.

This is the story of every single parent out there whose child is used to getting all the attention from his/her parent but in this case the mum. Whenever their mum finds love, they find it hard to adapt and most times try all they can to end the relationship so they can have all the love and attention. Accepting their parent’s new partner takes a long time and the person has to work hard to earn their trust.

Altogether, it is a good movie to watch. Not so bad.
